Surveying all of Darwin's writings, the author reconstructs Darwin's method of investigation and the event sequences that led to his discoveries (cover notes). Author received MacArthur Prize Fellowship Award in 1981. In the preface, the author notes that "like geology, history is a strictly objective branch of natural science...".
