This is a lovely orange penguin edition of The Story of Ragged Robyn by Oliver Onions. The central figure of this enchanting story, set in the late seventeenth century, is Robyn Skyrme, about whose birth there is a mystery. In boyhood he brings upon himself the wrath of a group of bandits, who promise that vengeance will fall on him seven years later. It does. His life as a wandering stone-mason’s pupil, his hopeless love affair with a girl who is socially beyond his reach, and the sinister climax in a defiled church make a story which moved the critics in an unusual way when it was first published.
