- additional information
133 illustrations (82 in color) + 23 portraits and film stills, index of artists.
The catalog comprises 192 lots of furniture, decorative art, drawings and many paintings, which were auctioned on November 15, 1990. Other important paintings from the collection by Renoir, Bonnard, Jawlensky and Rouault, were sold in a sale of Impressionist and Modern Art on November 13 and 14, and two by Poliakoff and Atlan in a sale of Contemporary Art in London on December 5, 1990. The catalog documents the complete collection. The texts are by Gray Horan, Drs. Donald R. Reisfield and Stuart D. Saal, Jane Gunther and Angelica Jawlensky. Also included in the catalog (but not in any of the sales) are 23 portraits of Garbo by photographers including Beaton, Genthe, Steichen, Beauchamp and Clarence Sinclair Bull, who was the primary publicity-still photographer at MGM during her association with the studio.
In colored, publisher's slipcase.
