Esterházy Péter : The Book of Hrabal
- description
- additional information
Translated by Judith Sollosy.
Drawings by Adam Rish.
The Book of Hrabal is a post cold war surrealistic view of Hungary’s totalitarian past. It is also a homage to the Blues, saxophones and the mixed blessings of domestic life. The novel centres on Anna, who sings the blues and is saddled with an unwanted pregnancy, and her husband’s convoluted writing experiments. It is also a tribute to cultural icons such as Charlie Parker, who gives saxophone lessons to God.
