The Assassination of Experience by Painting-Monory is the first in the Revisions series, a new collection of books presenting writings on the fine arts by well-known writers and philosophers. This first title in the series provides an English translation of Jean-Franois Lyotard's L'assassinat de L'experience par la peinture-Monory, originally published in French in 1984. The translation by Lyotard's writings on the work of the painter Jacques Monory and the accompanying essays by the series' editor, the art historian Sarah Wilson, serves to both introduce the work of this artist to an English-speaking audience and provide a historical and critical contextualization of Lyotard's commitment to writing about art.
