Kroha, Jirí : Jirí Kroha - Kubist - Expressionist - Funktionalist - Realist
- description
- additional information
Authors: Monika Platzer, Klaus Spechtenhauser -
Jiri Kroha (1893-1974) is a member of the second generation of Czech modern artists.
Czech cubism appeared in Prague even before World War I in a manifesto-like manner. The principle of this new architecture was to turn passive into dynamic material. After 1918, the '-ism' of this new architecture becomes the symbol of a young ambitious republic. In the late 20's, the principle of 'Housing construction as the spatial expression of life's processes' becomes the main creed in Kroha's intellectual biography.
Certain basic ideas, aspects, and phenomena in the work of Kroha are examined on the basis of seven time periods between 1915 and 1951.
