Film Fun. November,1937. - George Quintana cover; Grady, Lester C. (editor)

  • description
  • additional information
"Good Girl" cover art by George Quintana; contents are illustrated with photographs.

Without doubt the highest-grade pulp of the "girlie" era I've ever seen. Very bright and colorful cover; minor rubbing at its far left; spine is complete, with a tiny nick at bottom; interior pages are lightly age-toned and almost without damage; still very supple. Near Fine, rather spectacular for an era pulp. A very rare and iconic survivor from the pin-up pulp world of the 1930's, the covers of which, when executed by the likes of George Quintana, Enoch Bolles and Earle Bergey, are now referred to as "Good Girl" art. And, that they are. While Bolles covers are scarce enough, Quintana, about which very little else is known but that he painted such covers as these (see scan) is a particularly hard find. Contents are mostly Hollywood studio-produced photos of stars, anchored by those of fetching female stars. Plenty of rumor-mill type text as well, and a few short blurb-reviews of films. Quippy and/or light-hearted editor-inserted captions accompany the photos, mostly cinematic stills. A rare genre classic for both cover and content.

The tenth page break ( cca. 5 cm.) otherwise very nice.
