Cawley, A C (ed.) : Everyman and Medieval Miracle Plays
- description
- additional information
Medieval drama dates at least to the 12th century in England, and perhaps earlier in other parts of Europe. The miracle plays combined a popularized of religious drama with spectacle and humor, and were performed during the 14th century in England, but lasted somewhat longer in Celtic speaking Cornwall. The present collection, including the great play Everyman, are translated from Middle English by a various collection of translators. The Cornish drama, The Death of Pilate, is translated by Edwin Norris.
