Cseres, Tibor : Cold Days
- description
- additional information
Tibor Cseres (1915-1993) published his novel Cold Days in 1964. It was the first of a series of works that made him well known in Hungary, and its title has become a by-word for all that is bad, savage, senseless, brutal, and that carries within it the seeds of reprisal.
Cold Days is the disturbing story of the three freezing days in January 1942 when the Hungarian army conducted a 'clean-up' operation in the town of Ujvidek (Novi Sad) in Yugoslavia, ostensibly to get rid of partisans; those massacred were, however, in fact innocent civilians.
