The art of carving honey-cake moulds is a most interesting branch of the applied arts and one bordering on the domain of folk art. With its origins presumably going back to antiquity, it mainly flourished from the 16th to the 18th century when, liberatin g itself from the direct influence of other sculptural and graphic forms of art, it evolved its own peculiar style.
