In recent years, European countries have reached a level of development where considerable research effort is put into finding trends or regularities in a given system with the practical aim of increasing profits. A useful tool for discovering regularities is biomathematics as described in this book. An up to date approach with known mathematical notions and methods, as well as some new biomathematical procedures coupled with a knowledge of deductions, leads to the final formulae which can be used in practical computations. This demand of users has been further increased by the rapid spread of microprocessors. The intention of the book is to acquaint the reader with the problem to be solved and so enables his to reach the solution, be it by hand or by using the possibilities of his microprocessor. The draft formulation of practical examples and the control of computer-technical solutions is illustrated in this book by worked examples. The content and methods of the book make it suitable for use by students of forestry, pharmacology, agrotechnics, medicine and natural history in general and for experts working in these fields who like new approaches and who like to cogitate over practical problems.

A matematikus és erdőmérnök szerző, aki a Soproni Erdészeti és Faipari Egyetem címzetes egyetemi docense, a Pro Silva Hungaria, a legmagasabb erdész kormánykitüntetés díjazottja, Magyarországon a biomatematika hazai szülőatyja, és - vadászcsalád gyermekeként - maga is harminc éve vadász. Az erdőmérnöki és a matematikusi diploma megszerzése után elméleti szinten és a gyakorlatban egyaránt kutatta a természet törvényszerűségeit. A természeti jelenségeket agrofotogrammetriai, biofizikai, biomatematikai és számítástechnikai módszerekkel vizsgálta, így igyekezett megoldani a mezőgazdasági, erdészeti és vadgazdálkodási kérdéseket. „A biomatematika egyrészt matematikai módszerekkel modellezi a biológiai jelenségeket, másrészt a biológiai jelenségek önmaguk határozzák meg a matematikai konstrukciókat. Természetbúvárkodásomban vadonjárásaim mellett az alkalmazott biofizika-, remote sensing- és biomatematika módszereivel az agráriumban agrokémiai-, erdészeti-, növénytermesztési-, és vadgazdálkodási feladatok sokaságát oldottam meg az elmúlt fél évszázadban.” - írja munkásságáról egy összefoglalóban.
