Marie-Jeanne Riccoboni (1713-1792), was, after a mediocre actress necessity greatly appreciated novelist of his time, so much so that his peers refused to acknowledge that the author was a woman. His first novel was an immediate success and the following were better received, rented for the smoothness of style and attention to details, placing Madam Riccoboni among the best novelists of the eighteenth century.
